In order to provide aerophotography services in the Republic of Cyprus, one needs to obtain the licence for the aerophotography of Cyprus Areas by the Department of Civil Aviation, of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works.
The term "aerophotography" refers to the taking of photographs of the ground from an elevated position. The term usually refers to images in which the camera is not supported by a ground-based structure.
During the assessment of the application for aerophotography of Cyprus Areas, the Department of Civil Aviation takes into account air traffic rules, opinions, criteria and recommendations of other services, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Cyprus Police and any other Government Service involved or affected by Aerial photography.
The application for Aerophotography of Cyprus Areas can be submitted either electronically through the PSC Cyprus or by contacting directly the competent authority. Please note that the submission of the aforementioned online application form necessitates the use of an electronic signature, which has to be under the sole control of the applicant.

The applicant is informed regarding the authorisation decision within ten working days from the date that the application form and supporting documents were duly submitted. In case, other Ministries are involved, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Ministry of Defence, the applicant may be informed regarding the authorisation decision within one-two months.
The duration of the license for the aerophotography of Cyprus Areas depends on the application.
Obligations and Supervision
In case of approval, the written consent of the applicant together with a statement of acceptance and full and strict compliance of all the terms and conditions contained in the permit is required.
Authorised persons for aerophotography of Cyprus Areas are obliged to comply with the terms and conditions of the license and specifically, among others, are required to present the films/ memory sticks used to the Headquarters of the Cyprus National Guard for inspection at the day of aerophotography.
The Department of Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Defence supervises the licensed Aerophotography of Cyprus Areas.
