Description

(General Information)

In order to practise the profession of a hairdresser/barber in the Republic of Cyprus, one needs to register and obtain the professional licence by the Cyprus Council of Hairdressers and Barbers Registrar, operating under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry.

The term "hairdresser" refers to the person who provides services to the women’s' or men’s' hairdressing, such as haircuts, hairstyles (simple, fashion/trends, artistic), hair-colouring, curles, hair-straightening, shades, highlights and related technical and artistic works, related to the treatment of hair, the instalment and full services of small and regular size wigs.

In parallel, the term "barber" refers to the person who is engaged in cutting, washing and hairdressing and/or the shaving of men.

(Which Certificates Must Be Submitted)

The application should be accompanied by the following documents:

  • copy of Diploma (with translation in Greek or English language if applicable);
  • copy of Certificate of Social Insurance Contributions (in order to prove the years of working experience in hairdressing/barbing) ;
  • copy of photo;
  • copy of passport or identity card;
  • copy of Residence and Employment Permit.

(Fees Applicable & How to Pay)

Upon approval, the applicant must pay:
  • licence fee of €50 to the Cyprus Council of Hairdressers and Barbers Registrar (payable either by cash, cheque or bank transfer),
  • along with the registration fee of €17 to the Pancyprian Federation of Hairdressers and Barbers (as defined by the general meeting).

The renewal fee is €50 along with the subscription fee of €17.

(Decision Notification)

The applicant is informed regarding the authorisation decision within three months from the date that the application form and supporting documents were duly submitted.

(License Validity)

The licence is valid until the 31st of December of the year for which it has been issued. The renewal fee is €50 along with the subscription fee of €17.

(What Are My Obligations)

Registered hairdressers and barbers are obliged to comply with the provisions of the Registering hairdressers and Barbers Law and Regulations, as periodically amended.

Authorized officers of the Cyprus Council of Hairdressers and Barbers Registrar conduct regular inspections in order to ensure that the hairdressers/barbers possess the relevant licence.
